Wordless Wednesdays: The National Museum of Natural History

I'm so glad that my Mom got a chance to spend a week with us recently, and I was very fortunate to snap some great photos of our adventures while she was visiting us.  On this particular day, we got a chance to walk around the National Mall in the morning, and visit the Holocaust Museum in the afternoon.  However, before we left DC my boys wanted to take a look around the National Museum of Natural History. Well, we did and here are several of the animals that we got a chance to see while we were there.

Firmoo

As a long-term eyeglasses wearer myself, I know quite well that a pair of eyewear with lightest and clearest lenses is very important to protect my eyes. Rimless frames gradually become people’s first choice in today’s optical fashion world. Lightweight, comfortable and nearly invisible, rimless glasses always seem to bring the wearer an impression that they do not wear glasses at all. Exclusive temples, with details on the flexible nose bridge, make eyeglasses reliable and as lightweight as you can imagine. The Nail Files: Coco & Paris

I've a been eyeing two specific nail polishes from Julep for some time now, and since I had some reward points available I decided to cash some of them in.  So, with my points I was able to purchase Coco & Paris, one's an oxblood color and the other is glitter.  Anyway, for my manicure I applied two coats of Coco, then a coat of Paris, and I love how my manicure turned out:)

I've Got the Blues

Banana Republic Top (similar), Target Skirt (similar), Nordstrom Sandals (similar), Gucci Handbag (here), Fossil Watch (similar), and Oh, Sweet Joy Handbag (sold out).

I love the summer season, however with the high temperatures and humidity it hasn't been a favorite season of mine lately.  So, on this particular day I decided to wear a comfortable skirt as well as a sleeveless top to keep cool.  I try to run in out run of places as well too, when I'm running errands:) Also, I purchased this headband from Kim of Oh, Sweet Joy awhile ago and I wanted to wear it today to add a pop of color to my outfit.  I liked how my outfit turned out too, it's causal but still cute:)

When you wear stripes, do you add a pop to color to your outfit?

My Maxi & Vest

Old Navy Vest (here ), H&M Top (similar), Nordstrom Maxi Skirt (here), Nordstrom Sandals (here), Gucci Hobo (here), and Timex Watch (here).

Lately it's been so hot and humid here in Maryland it's been really uncomfortable, so to stay cool I've been decided to wear either shorts, skirts, or dresses.  On this particular day I decided to wear a maxi skirt I purchased at the Nordstrom located in Indianapolis, and I've been dying to wear it too.

My Mom got a chance to fly out and spend a week with us here in Maryland, and it was a great because my husband was on vacation as well.  While my Mom was visiting, we were able to show her around Salisbury, visit some attractions in DC, and go by the beach which I will be posting about later.  Mom landed safely this evening and I already miss her:(

Anyway, I thought I'd pair my skirt with a nude sleeveless top, a denim vest, black sandals and my Gucci handbag.

Guest Post: Celebrate Summer in Style with your Next Family Vacation

Today, I have an article I'd like to share with you about how to dress stylish while traveling with your family on vacation.  This article was written by Kendra, a former Orbitz Director of Communications,  she's had the opportunity to visit many countries around the world and has been quoted in the news about the seasonal travel trends and destinations all across the United States.  As a Mom, I've benefited from her great travel tips, and I know you will as well.

I'll let Kendra take over now!

Are you trying to plan a summer vacation with kids? There’s still time to organize a fun adventure that will make everyone happy. You all deserve time to feel free and relaxed, in a place where you can enjoy each other. Thinking ahead saves you a lot of stress and makes your family vacation easier for you, the planner, especially. Travel in style and with ease by keeping these five tips close by as you plan. And most of all: have fun with your family!

 1. Create Your “To Pack” List Early If you are someone who is deeply invested in making sure that you are prepared, start early. Make yourself a list. This list should include all the basics like clothes, diapers, medication, and hygiene supplies. Also make a list of things you’ll need to do in the weeks leading up to your trip. Getting a pet sitter and forwarding your mail are essentials that can often be overlooked. With all the commotion leading up to your trip, it’s likely something will be left behind. When in doubt, write it down. You can always decide later that you don’t need both curling irons or three sets of flip flops for your baby girl. It’s better to have it on your list than pay double for it at your destination.

 2. You Need Details How much do you really know about that hotel that you are getting ready to book? Even though the property may advertise itself as family-friendly, you need details. For instance, a microwave and fridge in your hotel room are really non-negotiable necessities if you plan to heat leftovers and store drinks and snacks. Extra features like a pool, playground and kid’s menu might also be necessities if you are planning to spend most of your time at the hotel. Want to let your accommodations do some planning for you? Look into family friendly resorts or hotels with tourism offices onsite. Consult a site like Gogobot to find recommendations from other parents on where to stay and what to do. My family found a great list of Orlando hotels with monorail access to ensure we were the first ones at the park!

3. Is it Naptime Yet? If you have decided on a family road trip this summer, try turning your backseat into a mini hotel room for your kids. Spread out blankets, pillows and stuffed animals to encourage your kids to settle in and relax. Consider investing in window blinds for your car that will block the sunlight and encourage frequent napping. For mom’s comfort, try a maxi dress from blended material that wont wrinkle. These are great for car or airplane travel and great for a little nap if you can sneak it in.

4. Something Old, Something New When it comes to choosing toys for travel, you can never be too careful. Toys can provide hours of entertainment for your children. Your best strategy will be to take along a few new toys that will grab and hold their attention and a few reliable old favorites that you know they can’t live without. Just make sure your selections are easy to pack and travel-friendly.

5. Hit the Pool By the time you make it to your hotel room, you will all be ready to burn off some pent-up energy. Plan ahead by packing everyone’s swimsuits all together at the very top of the suitcase. Presto! You’ll be lounging by the pool in no time, watching the kids show off all their latest swim moves. Do you or your little one need a new suit for your adventure?  Check out these chic coordinating options from JCrew to Lilly Pulitzer.

Wordless Wednesday: The Children's Zoo at Franklin Park

My boys are big fans of animals and really enjoy going to the zoo, so while visiting my in laws this summer, one day we got a chance to visit The Children's Zoo of Franklin Park in Dorchester, MA.  We really enjoyed our day at the zoo, and loved getting a chance to see the different animals while there.  Although, the weather was quite warm outside, we still got a chance to see all of the animals as well as try out the new 6D ride Rhino Rescue.  Here are several of my photos of our trip to the zoo:

Western Lowland Gorilla

The Nail Files: Wildfire

I've been dying to try a nail salon here in Salisbury, but I wanted to make sure I could get all the services done that I wanted while I was there.  So, while driving around one day I stumbled onto a new nail salon.  I not only got my nails done, but I had my eyebrows waxed as well.  SCORE!   Since I'm a fan of red nails, I choose CND Shellac Wildfire nail color.

Karing Card Club: Courage

The last couple of months I've participated in the Karing Card Club and I can really say I've enjoyed participating in this club.  Each month there's a new theme, there's no minimum price tag to purchase gifts, and I don't have to worry about stressing out about what to buy for my partner.  Instead, all I need is a card, and stamp to mail off to my partner.

The theme for this month was courage, my partner was Kendra and she was my partner.  I hope she enjoyed my card, as much as I enjoyed her beautiful and thoughtful card.  If you'd like to participate in the Karing Card Club, click here.

Here the photos of my lovely card:
